Overview ​

Square Mile Sport (SMS) is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of all through shared memorable experiences that leave lasting positive social or environmental impact. Through its flagship global corporate event series, the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay, and its uniquely developed Bloomberg Square Mile Virtual Club, as well as the Bloomberg PWR Ride event concept, Square Mile Sport uses the power of exercise and social development to empower individuals, build teams and connect businesses in cities all across the world.

​SMS is the owner and operator of the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay (BSMR), a global series of 13 events that brings corporate communities on to the streets for an immersive, collaborative, and competitive experience right in the heart of the world’s largest financial districts including London, Frankfurt, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Dubai, Sydney, New York, Tokyo, San Francisco, Sao Paulo, and Mumbai. With over 14,000 participants from 900+ companies each year, our aim is to connect businesses in the most engaging experiences that deliver on our commitment to improving wellbeing and improving local communities.

​In 2020, in response to the pandemic, we launched our free-to-access Bloomberg Square Mile Virtual Club (BSMVC), which has close to 6,000 members drawn from over 300 prestigious global companies, primarily in the Financial Services sector. Our aim was to be able to continue offering our community experiences to stay connected, engaged and motivated to be active. Members can earn points for themselves and their company from over 15 different activity types to move up city and global ranking leader boards, as well as unlock donations to go to a charity partner in their city as part of The Extra Mile charity programme.

​In 2022, SMS is also planning to bring​to life a unique PWR Ride static-cycling activation across up to nine Bloomberg offices, six Bloomberg Square Mile Relay races and four​marquee Bloomberg climate-focused​events. The innovative Energym bikes create and capture energy into a battery​through the power of human movement. The activations will engage with both Bloomberg employees and their key clients in a memorable and impact driven experience which supports Bloomberg’s wider efforts to tackle climate change from every angle.​

Role Summary​

The Project Manager – Live Events will form an integral part of the operations team that will drive the successful delivery of any or all Square Mile Sport live events. The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for project managing and executing the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay global series and/or​the Bloomberg PWR Ride activation series.​They will report into the Head of Operations – Live Events.

Key Responsibilities​​

  • Work closely with the Head of Operations – Live Events to ensure smooth project management and execution of all live events or activations, as well as general input and support on the creation and delivery of any new event concepts/ideas.
  • ​Project management and execution of the annual existing Bloomberg Square Mile Relay events and the new Bloomberg PWR Ride activations.
  • ​To contract, oversee, manage and lead the local event delivery agencies, and any other major stakeholders and suppliers, to ensure the races or activations are successful.
  • ​Manage and oversee all aspects of the events with the local delivery agencies, and our internal Commercial & Marketing teams,​across marketing, PR, communications, branding, team registration, participant experience, event production, licensing, operations, logistics, staffing and finance.
  • ​Manage event budgets with the local event delivery agencies or suppliers​where applicable to drive cost savings.
  • ​Travel to race cities around the world for event delivery, sometimes for event planning, either autonomously or with another team member.
  • ​Work alongside​the Client Experience and Communications team to oversee all Team Management requirements and manage all post-registration communications to enhance client user experience and help deliver best in class client servicing.
  • ​Negotiate and coordinate with event suppliers including venues, caterers, production, chip timing, apparel, activations, equipment manufacturers and logistics, either directly or through each city’s local delivery agency, and act as key liaison throughout the implementation of event projects.
  • ​Liaise and develop good working relationships with local delivery agencies, event suppliers, Bloomberg event planners, and Benchmark Sport staff, communicating project updates accurately and expediently.
  • ​Keep constantly informed and involved in the wider context of event projects, including sustainability and experiential etc.
  • ​Provide recommendations to improve the team or the agency’s operating efficiency and suggest ways to improve the participant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience​

  • 5+ years' experience involved in managing large event projects, ideally in international sport or mass participation events.
  • ​Strong and varied experience of project management and leadership with an understanding of sponsor management and client services.
  • ​Excellent communication skills.
  • ​Effective budget management ​and negotiation skills.
  • ​Outgoing, proactive, and energetic with a can-do attitude.
  • ​Flexibility and openness to change with the ability to think laterally and problem-solve.
  • ​Ability to multi-task and work efficiently on concurrent projects.
  • ​Focused, positive and calm under pressure with strong decision-making skills.
  • ​Excellent customer service, including the ability to handle difficult situations with diplomacy and tact.
  • ​Attention to detail in project management and in all communications.
  • ​Capacity to build an open, honest, and trusting relationship with other team members.
  • ​Willingness to travel and ability to work with different cultures in foreign environments.
  • ​IT literacy essential (Word, Excel, PPT.) and has ability to use design software tools.​

Basis, Salary & Benefits​

Permanent, full-time; Mon-Fri inclusive.

The role will be​based in the London Office (Holborn) three days per week and remotely for the remaining two.
